From Liu Sheng Hua's Blog:
Wonder why I make a post about this? Simple. Through greed, people would always tend to grab the most valuable things they have and hold them as tight as possible and not let other people touch them. One strong evidence to support my statement: There are rich people who have got loads of money and don't know how to spend them, yet they doesn't donate to the poor and help them. Now in this case, its not all rich people that are like that, but maybe a portion of them. If they could be considerate and gone on to think: "It wouldn't cause me to live in poor condition even if I donated the excess money", then it would very well let a lot more people be saved from hunger and starvation due to lack of money to support their family. Since its excess, it would of course give no harm to the rich person. Its not an insist that rich people have to donate to the poor, instead it shows how we can actually help out one another when we actually needed help. It would of course be generous to donate money and be recognized as a donor and a hero to the poor people.
Another example that I discovered, is in a checker's game, whereby you try to conquer the opponent's chess piece. Sometimes you just simply cannot defend your pieces, but you have to sacrifice some of your pieces to save yourself. What does this tells us? It simply tells us that through the struggle for survival, good things may have to be forfeited and have to learn to adapt to the poorer kind of environment in life. There would be difficulties and various obstacles trying to get in your way, thus we should help ourselves by overcoming it; sacrificing some of the good things we have. In a situation whereby the house is on fire, we can't be grabbing all the valuables and run away for safety. This would very well prove that its actually a necessity at times whereby difficulties are met, some good ideas or plans have to be abandoned so that we could improve by adapting to it.
In conclusion, being decisive of your own choice of your own life will shape your own future.
I feel that I have to disagree. Sometimes in life, we may face a lot of hardships but no matter what, me must persevere in order to achieve what we want. Imagine if Emily gave up and succumbed to fate that her parents disowned her. She would just be another orphan and there would be no Emily of Emerald Hill. However, she persevered and hence, she got what she wanted.
